Billing overview
Sencai bills on two independent axes: your organization’s plan (shared infrastructure, seats, and platform capabilities) and your own personal plan (what you, individually, can do - how many organizations you may own, and your AI features). They’re billed separately, changed separately, and one never silently affects the other. This page explains how the two fit together; the rest of this section covers each in detail.
The two billing axes, with an example
Section titled “The two billing axes, with an example”Say you’re a Member of “Acme Cloud” (an organization on the Professional tier) and you also personally own two smaller organizations of your own, using your personal Plus plan.
- Acme Cloud’s Professional plan governs what Acme Cloud can do as a company: how many users can join, how many cloud environments and managed resources it can run, how deep its security scanning and FinOps tooling go, and whether it gets SSO/SCIM or a browser terminal. Acme Cloud pays for this, and any Owner or Admin there can change it.
- Your personal Plus plan governs things scoped to you: how many organizations you’re allowed to own (Plus allows more than Free), how what AI features are available on your account. You pay for this yourself, independent of what Acme Cloud is on.
Being an Admin at Acme Cloud has no effect on your personal plan, and your personal plan has no effect on what Acme Cloud’s other members can do. The only place the two ever interact directly is sponsorship - see Personal plans - where one person can pay for another person’s personal plan.
The 14-day trial
Section titled “The 14-day trial”Every new organization starts on a full-featured 14-day trial - no credit card required, fair-use limits apply while it’s active. During the trial you get full platform access.
When the trial ends, an Owner needs to pick a plan to continue. Nothing is deleted because a trial expired - your configuration and data are kept - but a small, specific set of actions (creating or changing cloud instances, inviting members, changing organization settings) become blocked until a plan is chosen. Every read-only screen, and the billing/checkout screens themselves, stay reachable the whole time, so you’re never locked out of the one thing that would let you continue.
New personal accounts separately start with a 14-day trial of full Unlimited-tier personal-plan access; see Personal plans for what happens when that ends.
Where billing lives in the app
Section titled “Where billing lives in the app”Plan status, usage against your limits, and plan changes for the active
organization live at Settings → Subscription
(/gravity/settings/subscription). From there you can see your current
plan, review usage, change plans, or cancel.
Payment methods, invoices, and the Stripe-hosted billing portal live on a
separate Billing & Plan page (/gravity/settings/billing) - you’ll
land there automatically after checkout, or from an upgrade prompt when
you hit a plan limit. See Payment, invoices and failed
payments for what’s there.
Your own personal plan is managed from your profile rather than from organization settings - see Personal plans.
Who can change billing
Section titled “Who can change billing”Changing an organization’s plan, canceling it, or managing payment methods requires the Owner or Admin role in that organization. On top of the role, an organization can also restrict a specific member’s access to billing down to read-only or none at all, independent of their role - see Roles & permissions for how that per-resource override works. Your own personal plan is scoped to you alone; no one else’s organization role affects it.
